REACh stands for:
Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals
In the EU today one finds a patchwork of regulations concerning the registration of existing chemicals. Existing and new chemicals will have to be tested intensively before they get a final approval for the market. The aim is clear: REACh wants to guarantee the protection of human health and the environment from the adverse effects of hazardous chemicals. The responsibility for this has been transferred to the chemical industry. All those who manufacture or import chemicals in quantities exceeding 1 ton p.a. must have their product registered. REACh concerns all manufacurers, importers and chemical users who want to supply or use chemicals in the European Union from January 2009 onwards. Indian manufacturers who want to provide the EU with their products should take a strategic decision now.
